Every year there is a unique picture in the blue sky above Filzmoos. Hundreds of colourful balloons line the sky – a fascinating sight in the middle of the snowy winter landscape of our mountain village.
Filzmoos has become a well-known balloon village in recent years and welcomes numerous national and international balloon teams every year. In January, for example, many competitions and events around hot air balloons take place.
Geographically ideal
Filzmoos in January, with its cold temperatures and unique views, offers the best conditions for a safe lift-off of the balloons and magnificent balloon rides. Protected by the Bischofsmütze and Dachstein mountains, the geographical location is perfect.
International Hot Air Balloon Weeks - largest balloon weeks in Austria
In a Nations Cup and 3 individual competitions, the balloon teams fight for the highly coveted trophy. Every day, around 50 hot air balloons take off at the Hammerwiese launch site in Filzmoos.

On the Night of the Balloons, the colourful balloons dance like balls to the rhythm of the music. In the darkness of the winter night, the brightly illuminated hot air balloons create a very special light show accompanied by a uniquely mystical atmosphere. Enjoy the show with a hot mulled wine.
